New Families

We are delighted to you have your student joining us at Lausanne! Following are some helpful links and explanations of what to expect in the coming year. Please feel free to contact the admission office if you have further questions. We will be happy to help provide you with more information as well as to connect you with the division or department representative that may be able to provide you greater insight. Let us know if we should add something to this list, too!

After School (AfterCare, Library, and Activities)

Lausanne provides supervision of Lower School students from 7:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. and Middle School and Upper School students from 7:30 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. Additionally, a sibling room is available for Lower School students with an older student on campus until the Middle and Upper School dismissal time at 3:30 p.m.

AfterCare programming (at an additional cost) provides after school supervision and activities for students in PK-Grade 6 until 6:00 p.m. There is a wide range of additional activities to choose from during AfterCare from performing arts, including dance classes and instrumental lessons, to athletics to chess, robotics and other academic endeavors.

Students in Grades 7-12 who are still on campus after 3:45 p.m., but not involved in a Lausanne activity such as an athletic or art program, report to the library. The library, including the Blue Heron Café, is open until 5:00 p.m. on school days.

Pick-up for AfterCare is in the library at the circulation desk or you may call 901-591-1177 upon your arrival on campus and your child will be brought to the front entrance by Shockey Hall and the Admission Office for carpool.

Alleriges & Medical Forms

All parents are asked to fill out a medical form and an emergency contact form for their children at the beginning of the school year. Students with specific allergies are also asked to fill out an allergy alert section of the form. The medical form is digitially provided and will be sent via email prior to the beginning of the school year. The Lausanne Dining staff will be made aware of the allergy forms and specific meetings to discuss a student’s allergy or dietary needs can also be arranged.

Lausanne is a peanut-free campus. All parents and students are asked to follow this policy when providing any foods from home or celebratory snacks for classrooms.

Athletics Team Registration

Online registration for Middle and Upper School sports participation in the new school year will open this spring. Families with questions about specific sports participation including summer schedules are encouraged to contact the athletics office for clarification, 901-474-1050 or Cayce Densford,

Lower School sports team registration will take place over the summer with other AfterCare and Conservatory options. Emails will be sent directing you to the online registration process.

Although you can register for the entire year's participation at one time, there will be additional opportunities to register for winter and spring sports as well as second semester options for AfterCare and Conservatory.

Parents have the ability to make payments towards tuition and their accounts online, You are also welcome to send payments directly to the business office. For questions, regarding payments, please reach out toPatty McConnell, 901-474-1007, or Gina Christian, 901-474-1023.

Blue Heron Cafe & Lynx Store

The Blue Heron Café is located in the library and is open from 7:00 – 10:30 a.m. (Upper School break) and 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on school days. From "chillers" and fruit to chicken biscuits and snack bars, the Blue Heron Café is a great place to grab a snack and spend time with classmates. Purchases can be made using cash, credit card or student IDs (see Student IDs below).

The Lynx Store is located in Main Gym and has a wide range of items to meet your blue and gold spirit needs! The store also carries snacks and drinks for students to purchase after school. Items are also available for purchase online. The store is open on school days from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and during select sporting events. During the summer, the store will be open the first Friday of each month (June, July, & August) from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Purchases can be made using cash, credit card or student IDs (see Student IDs below).

Books & School Supplies

All text books and other reading materials are provided by the school. Early Childhood students in PK, JK and SK will be provided with a Lausanne tote bag and sleeping sack (mats in classroom). They might want to bring a small pillow or stuffed animal to rest with in the afternoon.

Students in Grades 1-4 will need a backpack or school tote.

Middle & Upper School students will want a bag that can accommodate their laptop and other materials. A school supply list will be provided by the Middle School office for Grades 5-8.

There is not a required supply list for the Upper School although some art classes may have some additional needs.

Campus Safety

During school hours, entrance to the campus can be accessed through the Welcome Center. All vehicles that do not have parking permits are required to check in at the Welcome Center so we have an account of who is on campus at any given time. The north gate at Lenden Wood Road and the Welcome Center gates are open during carpool hours. The Welcome Center gate remains open during evening and weekend activities.

Carpool hours for PK through 4th grade are 7:30–8:00 a.m. and 3:00–3:15 p.m. Carpool hours for grades 5–12 are 7:30–8:30 a.m. (to accommodate Zero Hour arrival) and 3:30–3:45 p.m. Lower School students with Middle or Upper School siblings will be at the youngest siblings’ carpool for pick-up.

Please be courteous to our neighbors by following posted signs to avoid blocking driveways and access to their homes. This is a school zone so slow down and watch for pedestrians.

Parents are always welcome to park and walk their children in to school. Lower School parents particularly enjoy this activity especially on the first day of school. This is a nice way to meet other parents and get to know the teachers when helping settle in your student for the day.

If you are interested in creating a carpool with Lausanne families in your neighborhood, please fill out the carpool survey available through the admission office.

Class Schedules

Lower School students receive an email on July 15 announcing their new class teachers. Our teachers and school administrators thoughtfully consider all students learning needs, personalities and friendships when creating classrooms and to match them accordingly with one of our fantastic teachers; therefore, teacher requests are not accepted.

Middle School student schedules will be compiled and distributed in July. Students will be asked to fill out a survey in April regarding their requested art/engineering activities and language studies.

Upper School students new to Lausanne will be invited to take math and language placements beginning in April or after their enrollment. All Upper School students will also schedule a meeting for a later time with our assistant head of Upper School, Stephen Campbell,, to discuss schedules.

Class Trips

Although most students do participate, class trips for grades 5-12 are optional and do have an additional cost associated with them. Class trips are designed to build friendships as well as enhance lessons learned in the classroom.

5th Grade trip at the end of April.

Grades 6-8 trips will be first week of October.

Grade 9 (team-building) and Grade 11 (college tour) will take their class trips during the second week of the school year. Permission forms will be sent to students in participating grades prior to the start of school.

Grades 10 and 12 will be participating in Lausanne’s internship program during the second week of school.

Optional spring break and summer trips will be announced during the school year via Upper School email updates and the website.

Conservatory (Dance, Music, Performing Arts)

Instrumental classes for any age and stage may be registered for through the AfterCare program. Additionally, dance and performing arts classes for Lower School students are also available through the AfterCare program.


Beginning in August, you will receive weekly emails from individual teachers, announcements regarding special events and a message from each divisional head and the headmaster. Assignments and classwork will also be posted online in the parent and student portals each week,

The online calendar can be customized to meet your needs by adjusting the selections of calendar categories using the “eye” toggle symbol. You can also export the calendar to your personal calendar using the “arrow” toggle symbol.

We recommend that you sign up for the weather alerts so that you will have that additional option of receiving school closings via text. Weather related closings are also sent via email and posted on the website and via local media outlets. Additional alerts are also available for Lausanne news, athletics, etc. Use the blue “alerts” symbol at the top of the calendar to register for these alerts or register in the parent/student portal,, in the Subscriptions tab.

Lausanne also has two apps available. The Lausanne app provides a general overview similar to the website and the Lausanne Senior System App give you direct access to your account, the directory and student records.

Lausanne also has Facebook (LausanneCollegiateSchool) Twitter (@lausanneschool),Instagram (LausanneSchool) and YouTube (LausanneSchool) presences that are good resources for news.


An online directory of students and parents names, addresses, home telephone numbers and e-mail addresses can be accessed by logging on the parent and student portals ( and accessing the My Backpack tab. This login is accessible from any page on the website and through the Senior Systems app.

Parent and student contact information is to be used solely for the communication of school-related or school community purposes. Its use for any other purpose is not authorized. A list of board members and Lausanne Parent Connection members and contact information is also available in the parent and student portals.

Frequently used numbers are also listed on our website.

Dress Code

Lausanne students do not wear uniforms but do follow a dress code. Please review the dress code when planning wardrobe purchases. The first day of school is a Monday, so all Upper School students need to remember to wear assembly dress.

Student email addresses are assigned for all students in grades 5-12. These will be made available prior to the new student orientation, at which time students will also be given training on how to login.

Field Trips

Our students all enjoy participating in field trips that enhance the various projects they are exploring in their classrooms. In section 10 of the school contract, you registered your child to participate in all Lausanne field trips, excursions and activities inclusive of team and individual sport participation in athletic organized trips during the 2017-2018 school year. You will be advised by email or teacher web pages in advance of each trip in which your student is involved. Separate permission forms for these trips will not be sent home.

Optional trips with additional parent permission needed include any overnight class trips or spring break or summer trips. These optional trips have an additional cost.


Lower School students’ tablets, laptops and Promethean boards are provided in the classroom. There is no need to make an additional purchase at this time.

All students in Grades 5-12 need to purchase a laptop prior to the first day of school. There will be two meetings for new families to come in and learn about laptop purchasing through the school: April 18 at 8:00 a.m. and again at 5:00 p.m.

Our program is unique in that we encourage hardware diversity while at the same time offering the best support possible to ensure successful and seamless integration of technology into the curriculum. We recommend you order the Lausanne-selected Lenovo laptops because of the historical durability and ease of having them repaired at our on-site certified Lenovo repair center (at no additional cost). You may purchase these recommended laptops through These laptops come with a three-warranty and accidental damage protection.

Other PC models and Mac products are also acceptable. If you do decide to purchase a laptop outside of the recommended models, please be aware that you are responsible for ensuring that your child’s laptop is in working condition. Additionally, all outside laptop purchases are required to pay an annual $150 tech fee to cover the cost of licensing, connectivity, and access to a loaner laptop for up to two weeks if repairs are needed. Computers will need to be brought to the Tech Center prior to the start of school for connecting to the network and verifying minimum requirements.

Lausanne Parent Connections

All parents are invited to participate in the Lausanne Parent Connections’ efforts to support our students and school programs. There are many volunteer opportunities throughout the year including serving as room parents/class representatives and helping to plan school events such as the Fall Carnival and Lausanne Auction. The LPC meets every first Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. in the morning. Read more and get connected!

Learning Plans

If your child has a diagnosis that recommends a learning plan, we encourage you to schedule a meeting with one of the learning specialists prior to the start of school or within the first few weeks of school. Students in PK-4th grade can visit directly with their child’s teacher or contact Kara Barbour or Erica McBride in the Lower School Office, 901-474-1000. Students in Grades 5-8 may contact Kim Davis in the Middle School, 901-474-1034. Students in Grades 9-12 may contact Edie Street in the Upper School, 901-1068.


The required lunch plan enables students to have a wide range of options to meet their varied tastes each day. The three hot stations, two salad bars, two soups, fresh fruit bar and grab-and-go refrigerators give students a wide range of nutritious and delicious foods to choose from each day.

PK students eat in their classrooms and have the option to opt into the lunch program for the year by filling out the PK lunch survey or emailing Patty McConnell in the business office to have the PK lunch added to your tuition schedule.

All JK through 12th grade students eat lunch in the Tully Dining Hall and are on the lunch plan.

Lower School students eat in 30-minute increments between 11:00 a.m. and noon. They have the options of milk and water with their meals and teachers are on hand to help them make choices. Third and fourth grades do have the options of tea or juice as well. There are no sodas available.

Middle School students eat from 12:00-12:30 p.m.

Upper School students eat from 12:30-1:00 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to enjoy a lunch with their students! This is especially fun for our Lower School students. Lunch tickets may be purchased for $5 from the Lower School office.

Parking for Students & Family Vehicles

Lausanne Collegiate School parking decals may be authorized for vehicles owned by student drivers; parents/guardians; anyone with parental authorization such as grandparents, nannies and babysitters; Lausanne employees/spouses and Lausanne contract employees. When applying for a decal for a non-parent/guardian please be sure the parent/guardian is listed as the registrant’s sponsor on the form.

Lausanne Collegiate School decals consist of a two-part decal system. The first part is a LCS decal and the second part is a month/year strip. The color-coded month/year strip is replaced on an annual basis, and there are different colors to signify the vehicles of a parent/guardian, a senior student driver or an underclassmen student driver.

Parent/Guardians may fill out the online form to make a request for parking stickers through this link. Families can chose to have the stickers mailed to them or they may pick them up from the Welcome Center and the entrance gate. Requests for printed forms may also be made at the Welcome Center at the front of the campus.

Student parking is available on campus (campus map). Students' cars must be registered through Campus Safety. The link for Student Driver’s can be found at (in the Upper School section).

Parent Information Night

Shortly after the new school year begins and students have settled into their schedules, parents will be invited to an evening presentation by division (Lower, Middle, Upper) to visit their students' classrooms, meet the teachers and get an overview of the divisional experience for their student(s).

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Open communication between teachers, students and parents at Lausanne is encouraged. In addition to other forms of communication including weekly email and website updates, two parent/teacher conferences are scheduled throughout the year. The first conferences will take place on Friday, October 27, 2017. The second conferences will take place on February 23, 2017. Between these conferences please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher/advisory with any questions or clarification needs.

P.E. Uniforms for Middle School

Students in Grades 5-8 benefit from daily P.E. (physical education). The students do wear P.E. uniforms during this time. The uniforms are available for purchase through the Lynx Store or by contacting Angie Buchanan,

School Hours

Administrative offices are open from 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. All students can arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. with no additional charge to tuition.

Lower School (PK–4th grade) students spend 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. in one of their grade classrooms supervised by a teacher and are at work at centers or on homework. Lower School classes take place from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Parents are welcome to park and walk their children into class or to use the carpool lines.

Most Middle and Upper School students also arrive on campus by 7:30 or 7:45 a.m. to take advantage of Zero Hour from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. when all of their teachers are in the classrooms. The students can spend this time getting extra help from their teachers, working out in the gym, practicing their instruments or spending time with friends in the Blue Heron Café. Zero Hour is offered at no additional cost to tuition.

The Middle and Upper School classes take place from 8:30 a.m.– 3:30 p.m.

Special Events

The first day of school certainly is a special day at Lausanne and is followed throughout the year with a wide-variety of special events including spirit weeks and athletic and arts events. Next up will be the all-school Night of Broadway. Auditions for individual and group Broadway scenes and songs will take place shortly after school begins in August. All ages are encouraged to participate, and the summer is a good time to start brainstorming about what you might like to perform!

Student & Parent Portal Access

Each student in grades 5-12 will be assigned a username and password and will have access to the student portal, which connects them to grades, homework, attendence and more. Students gain access to the portals and will be trained on this system at during the new student orientation. Further support is available through advisors, teachers and the tech support center in the library.

Beginning mid-June, each parent will be provided a username and password to access the portals on the website. The portals provide links to various parent and student resources. Once classes are scheduled, you will have access to your student’s schedule and class announcements from teachers such as upcoming assignments and assessments. The portal also gives you direct access to My Backpack, which connects to your online account and payment options, the school directory and student grades and attendance.

Student Handbook

A printed copy of the student handbook will be made available to all families at the beginning of the school year. It can also be access in the parent and student portals of the website in the resources tab or directly here.

Student IDs

Students in Grades 5-12 are provided with a student ID (identification) cards. Pictures will be taken during student orientation or the student’s first day on campus, and IDs will be available within 24 hours. Students can use these cards to charge purchases in the Lynx Store and Blue Heron Café to their student accounts. Parents can set limits on these purchases amounts by contacting Angie Buchanan, Students will use the same cards throughout their entire Lausanne experience. If for some reason a card is lost, it can be replaced for a $5 fee.

That morning we will look forward to welcoming you to campus with a special breakfast followed by a Meet-The-Teacher event for Lower School students and families and orientation events for students new to grades 5-11. Summers @ Lausanne

A great way to get to know new friends and the campus is to attend Summers @ Lausanne. There are entertaining themes each week to raise the bar on fun, and every week there is a different range of interest camps for all ages (rising PK – Grade 12) as well special Camp Programs. Lausanne’s partnership with Soccer Ole enables a convenient practice location for Lausanne students wishing to participate in the program. Soccer Ole offers several summer camps in addition to the Summers @ Lausanne program. Soccer Ole also gives students an additional playing option to the Lausanne soccer team opportunities provided during the school year.

Summer Reading

Reading is an important way to stay academically active during the summer. From PK-Grade 12 summer reading assignments are made available online. Lower School assignments vary according to age and usually involve a variety of selected authors and titles from which to choose. The Middle and Upper School assignments have required reading selections. The Middle and Upper School books will be provided for pick up by the school, so please be on the lookout for the summer reading assignments and book selection option announcements from those divisions.
