Arts at Lausanne
Developing our talents. Enriching our lives.
Strong educational programs must include comprehensive and sophisticated arts education. Why? Because the arts help our students understand and appreciate the best of our civilization, sharpen communication skills, encourage creativity and hone students’ ability to make critical assessments and wise, informed choices.
At Lausanne, we understand the importance of the arts and have developed one of the premiere fine and performing arts programs for children in preK through the 12th grade in the Mid-South. From an eloquent Mozart sonata, a Shakespearean soliloquy to a spellbinding drama, our program is interwoven across the disciplines to encourage imagination and self-expression.
In art classes, students discover relationships between seeing and thinking. They learn the visual vocabulary necessary to understand the language of images. Texture, shape, line, rhythm and color are explored through drawing, photography, sculpture, and collage.
Theatre studies provide practical exploration of set design and construction, lighting and sound, and acting and direction. Several times a year it's show time, when students present their achievements to live audiences in our 500-seat performing arts center.
Music fills the halls of all three divisions. From Orff instruction in the Lower School, musical theatre in both the Middle and Upper School, to active band and choral programs, students find a myriad of ways to keep engaged in their musical interests.
Our Music Conservatory is one of the oldest in the Mid-South, en-compassing a full range of musical experiences, including instruction in instrumental performance, voice, and composition. Studies of music theory, appreciation, and performance encourage students to find their niche. Practice techniques and skills are taught to encourage mastery.
