The Upper School program at Lausanne places a strong emphasis on engaged and highly relevant learning combined with a real spirit of community. Lausanne students like being here and learning here. Our curriculum requires standard core courses at the grade 9 and 10 levels, with several Advanced Placement courses and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as options for motivated and disciplined students. A wide assortment of electives is also available.

Students are encouraged to be actively and appropriately involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities beyond the classroom, which includes robust arts and athletics programs. Lausanne is renowned in the local and larger community for being a center of excellence that extends beyond academics. Successful Lausanne students learn the importance of balancing a variety of endeavors and interests and are supported in developing skills and talents in a host of areas.

The Upper School advisory program is the foundation of support for our students. The connection that each student is able to make to his/her advisor and advisory group over four years is essential to his/her success. In advisory, students are able to engage in conversations about social concerns and issues, as well as academic planning and support. Lausanne students are accountable to a guiding set of values, known as the Honor Code of Lausanne. Its emphasis on Knowledge, Truth and Honor underscore the importance of academic and personal integrity and character at our school and in life. Each member of the Lausanne community is responsible for holding one another accountable to this commitment.

Our faculty is a learning- and results-oriented group of professionals who work collaboratively to provide the best possible educational experience for our students. As educators, our first concern is in the process of teaching students how to learn. Higher-ordered thinking and problem solving is encouraged at all grade levels in the Upper School. Service learning, international learning opportunities and leadership are also integral parts of our program as we prepare students for the global society they will enter and actively contribute to as the 21st century unfolds.
