Student Life
Lausanne’s Middle School traditionally serves as the bridge between the nurturing, self-contained classrooms of Lower School and the subject-oriented environment of Upper School by teaching students to be independent learners. Teaching teams provide safety nets, which can include weekly assignment calendars e-mailed to students and parents, midterm narrative progress reports, weekly assessments of individual students available on the school Web site, ongoing communication between teachers and parents and counseling through the advisory program. Clear and consistent boundaries are provided in both academic and behavioral expectations. When students enter Middle School, they are guided through an adjustment period as they learn to change classes, operate out of a locker and come to school prepared on a daily basis. This process is woven throughout the program in academics, advisory, service-oriented projects, trips, extra-curricular activities and athletics.
