Scenarios for Learning this Fall

Preparations continue for welcoming students back to campus this fall. As we shared last week, we're developing plans to use our nine buildings and their 250,000 square feet of space to ensure the safety of our community.

We're developing plans for three possible scenarios:

  • Scenario 1 - All classes take place on campus with safety protocols in place. Small groups interact, maintaining social distance in protective bubbles as they move around campus and in their classrooms. Temperatures are checked daily, and other protocols are put in place to ensure community safety.
  • Scenario 2 - School is open, but students are absent more frequently and in greater numbers than usual. While classes continue in person, resources are made available online to ensure students can continue learning while not able to come to campus due to illness or potential quarantine.
  • Scenario 3 - Campus is closed; classes are held online. The essential goal is to support student well-being and academic development in the midst of a major disruption to our daily operations for an extended period of time. We also want to ensure that we continue to foster student learning without being able to meet our students in person.

Our task force has developed protocols for students, staff and others to visit campus that you can find on our website.

Just like in the spring, the situation can quickly change. These scenarios and our adaptability ensure that we can adjust to the situation as it develops.
