Literacy, PK3

Learning about literacy is a fundamental skill for all of our Lower School students. This is especially true for our Pre-Kindergarten three-year-olds. Within PK3, students are introduced to phonemic awareness authentically through daily classroom routines and activities. Building on skills learned in PK3, our Junior Kindergarten students focus on phonemic awareness authentically through daily classroom routines and activities. Additionally, they learn to recognize and spell snap words and high-frequency sight words, understand rhyming words, and express their learning through pictures and sentences in writing journals. In PK-4th grade, we use the Everyday Math curriclum from the University of Chicago. In PK, math skills focus include number recognition and counting. Building upon these foundational skills, PK students also learn to connect numbers to quantities through one-to-one correspondence and even beginning concepts of adding together and taking away. Science, Grade 1 - Grade 4

Students in grades 1-4 connect their classroom science learning through units of inquiry and apply their knowledge when they go to the LS science lab 2 times in a 7 day rotation. Our experienced science teacher, Dr. Frassinelli, guides students through a science teaching model that includes hands-on science labs and partner work. World Languages, Grade 1 - Grade 4

All Lausanne Lower school students benefit from daily language instruction. Having gained a strong foundation in both Mandarin and Spanish in the early childhood years, students in grades 1-4 expand on their language skills. In these lower school grades, studetns receive daily Mandarin or Spanish from native speakers through an alternating language scheduled. 1st grade students receive 4 days of Mandarin and 3 days of Spanish instruction of 30 minutes each. Co-Curricular, PK3

Knowing that PK students benefit most from less transitions, our youngest Lynx begin a co-curricular rotation by attending classes 5 out of 7 days of the rotation. They receive instruction from skilled specialist teachers in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library. Co-Curricular, Grade JK - Grade 4

1st-4th grade students take part in a full 7 day co-curricular rotation, as they travel to a specialty class each school day. In addition to a STEAM class, ANTS (Acquiring New Technology Skills) LS Lynx also receive instruction from skilled specialist teachers in Art, Music and Physical Education.
