Giving FAQs

I am already paying tuition; why should I make another gift?

Your gifts support everything that sets a Lausanne apart – talented and dedicated teachers, a diverse community of students, small class sizes, as well as exceptional offerings in academics, the arts and athletics. Like every other independent school, Lausanne relies on this fundraising to make these enhancements possible. The money we raise for the Lausanne Community Fund this year will enable us to plan for next year.

Isn’t fundraising just about the really big donors?

No! Lausanne uses—and is grateful for—gifts at all levels. Donors of relatively smaller but consistent gifts have always made a key difference in Lausanne’s ability to educate a diverse student body without regard for their financial circumstances, hire the best faculty, and employ the most innovative teaching and learning technologies. All gifts are critical to Lausanne’s mission.

Why should I give to Lausanne when there are other organizations that need support?

There are many worthy organizations in which members of the Lausanne community are personally involved. In accordance with The Lausanne Way, we build character in our students through their service to others, thus we offer a wide variety of community service opportunities for students. A gift to LynxServe supports such initiatives and serves as an investment in our students, which will help them to become leaders and innovators in a global environment.

What is participation? Why is it important?

Participation is the percentage of our Lausanne Community (parents, alumni, faculty, etc.) who make a gift of any size in a given year. This percentage is a key indicator of the strength of the school community and can also have an impact on giving from outside sources; many foundations consider participation rates before agreeing to make a charitable gift to a school. We aim for 100% participation each year from our entire community.

I want to support both the Lausanne Community Fund and the Annual Auction. Am I able to do that?

Absolutely! Lausanne’s Annual Auction is an important component of annual giving at the school, raising much needed dollars designated for specific needs for our students and teachers. We hope families make a gift to the Lausanne Community Fund, as well as support Lausanne by volunteering on the Auction Committee, attending the Auction, sponsoring the event, donating items to the silent auction and/or bidding during the silent and live auction. For more information on the Auction and ways to become involved, please contact Amber Colvin at 901-474-1033 or

How much should I give?

An amount and range for giving will be suggested in the letter that all of our community receives. That amount is based either on the previous gift given by the donor or on the averages of gifts given by their constituency. In making their choice of an amount, we suggest that donors refer to the Lausanne Community Fund Giving Clubs as shown below. However, we hope all constituents will choose to give at whatever level is meaningful to them.

Giving Circles within the Lausanne Community Fund:

  • *Nelse Thompson Society $25,000+
  • *Founder’s Society $10,000+
  • *Headmaster Society $5,000+

  • *KTH Society $1,200+
  • Collegiate Circle $500+
  • Horizon Circle $250+
  • Lynx Circle $150+
  • Donor Circle Up to $149

*Denotes membership in The Lausanne Way Leadership Society

Why should I give at the Leadership level?

Members of The Lausanne Way Leadership Society are those donors who give at $1,200 or more and help to ensure that Lausanne can continue to provide its students with the best faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology. These donors are also invited to attend special events and serve as ambassadors for the school.

Does it matter when I make my gift?

Yes! A gift made early in the school year is a great advantage, as it allows us to know the funds available to support programs in the current school year and to plan for the following year. We hope our donors will make their contribution or pledge by December 31, with pledge payments due by May 31. Once you have made your annual gift or pledge, you will not receive another Lausanne Community Fund solicitation until the following school year.
