Students in Lower School are introduced to coding and programming beginning in kindergarten during ANTS classes. They work in pairs to solve blockly-based puzzles, learning about how the blocks work together to make some of their favorite characters move. Robotics is introduced in first grade, where students program Dash robots to move, dance, and complete challenges.
Second graders have the opportunity to take their robotics further in both their ANTS classes and the classroom with an entire unit dedicated to programming. These students move on to more complex programs with programming and create several projects featuring their creative coding skills.
Students in third and fourth grades continue to practice programming and have the opportunity to participate in an after-school robotics program featuring the LEGO Spike Essentials robotics kits. This program establishes the foundation for their work in middle school with STEAM and robotics.
