First-Graders Explore Their Campus Community For PYP Unit

As a part of their Primary Years Programme unit, Who We Are, "Many Faces, Many Places," our first-graders explored their school community this week.

Their journey began with visitors, including Nurse Jo, Officer Walsh, and learning specialist Dr. Sailors, stopping by the first-grade classrooms throughout the week to explain how they help the community, followed by a campus tour with Headmaster McCathie to learn about Lausanne's history.

The first-graders wrapped up the week with an exploration around Lausanne to find hidden pictures of Louie the Lynx. Students used a campus map and a pencil to mark the places Louie was spotted to strengthen their mapping skills.

"We know that our mascot Louie plays an essential role at Lausanne by cheering our team spirit, so students had a blast spotting their favorite Lynx around campus," said first-grade teacher Tabatha Whittaker. "Their unit activities were engaging, connected with our students and brought learning about a big subject right to their understanding level."
