Knowledge Bowl Team Finishes Strong In Weekend Tournament

Lausanne’s Knowledge Bowl team took second place this weekend at a tournament at Bartlett High School over the weekend.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the team. This year we’ve brought on a lot of students new to trivia competition and their skills as a team are growing quickly, and the leadership of our seniors has a lot to do with that success," IB Literature & TOK teacher and Knowledge Bowl coach Wade Linebaugh said.

Lausanne bought two teams to the competition, with both performing well in pool play. Lausanne had one team advance to the playoffs where they defeated Hernando and CBHS before falling to White Station in the championship matchup.

"After our first tournament earlier this school year (at Arlington), we got knocked out in pool play. Going from that result to not just qualifying for the playoff round but making it all the way to the championship matchup is a huge success," Linebaugh said.

The students who competed were: Ryan Hof ’22, Sophia Holland ’22, Jonny Roberts ’23, Matthew Kulubya ’23, Whit Faughnan ’23, Cooper Deason ’24, Chas Rutledge ’24 and Jack Plucker ’24.

"I think we've got a really good balance," senior Sophia Holland said. "Our individual strengths complement each other well in competition. Everyone on the team can now go into future competitions with more experience and confidence, which is super exciting!"

Having already filmed their WREG match vs CBHS, which airs on March 5, 2022, the team is now preparing for the University of Mississippi Academic Quiz Tournament being held in Oxford, MS on Feb 26, 2022.
