Last Friday, members of the Lausanne DECA club competed in the organization’s District 1 Career Development Conference at Christian Brothers University.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
Students prepared throughout the fall for either an individual event or an event with a partner in which they needed to use their business knowledge and skills to give a short presentation on a fictional scenario that they were given the morning of the competition.
Students were judged by an industry professional on their presentation and their ability to respond realistically as a competent entrepreneur.
The students’ scores were derived partly from a written exam, and partly from the in-person presentations at CBU.
From this year’s competition, 11 Lausanne students qualified to advance to the Tennessee state competition.
