With the start of the 2021-22 school year comes the unveiling of our newly renovated Early Childhood Playground. To celebrate, Lausanne had the honor of inviting the playground's donors and their families to a grand opening.
After completing the Outdoor Discovery Center in 2015, Lausanne set its sights on a similar endeavor for our littlest Lynx. The Early Childhood playground's new design represents last year's overarching theme of "We Are Lausanne. We Are Memphis."
"The space reflects imaginative hallmarks of both our school and our incredible city – the Lausanne Cottage, a beloved former campus building that housed the school's youngest students, the M bridge and the Memphis pyramid," said Charlotte Albertson, the Director of Development & Community Engagement and a design partner on the project. "We are thrilled to bring this long-awaited project to fruition as we introduce the new and improved Early Childhood Playground."
The playground's theme also correlates with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum, Who We Are, a unit of inquiry that allows students to explore the world around them throughout our Early Childhood classrooms and Lower School.
"It begins with the school, then their homes and school, then into their neighborhoods and city in which they live," said Head of Lower School Kara Barbour. "As the students advance through the Lower School, they learn about being a global citizen, mirrored in the Outdoor Discovery Center's design. We are so excited about the renovation of this outdoor play space for our youngest Lynx."
