The Lausanne Lynx basketball team advanced to the state championship game on Saturday with a 63-55 win over Webb School of Knoxville on Thursday afternoon at Lipscomb University in front of a large contingent of Lausanne fans.
"I'm so proud of the team, the coaches and the Lausanne community as a whole," head coach Marvis Davis said. "From the students watching at the school back in Memphis to all the students and staff that drove up. It was a great day for the Lynx family."
After falling behind 21-12 to end the first quarter, the Lynx cut the lead to five to end the half and used a stifling press in the second half to force overtime. In overtime, the Lynx outscored Knoxville-Webb 12-4 en route to the victory.
The Lynx were led in scoring by Moussa Cisse '21 and Bo Montgomery '20, who each contributed 15 points apiece. Cisse also added 11 rebounds in the victory.
With the win, Lausanne will advance to face FACS in the state championship game on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., with the Lynx looking to capture their third state title in school history.
The game will be a re-match of the Regional finals, a game FACS won 53-51 on a half-court shot at the end of the game.
"The game versus First Assembly will be the biggest game of the year for us," Davis said. "We need all of Lynx Nation to come to Lipscomb and support us as we try and make history."
It isn't just fans and current students enjoying this run the Lynx are on. Former Lynx state champion and Mr. Basketball Cameron Payne '13 has been following the Lynx on their postseason run and took the time to send a tweet to the team.
Payne says the school continues to mean a lot to him.
"This school set me up for where I am now," Payne said. "I'm really blessed that my parents put me here because it made me who I am."
