During the weekend of November 17, Lausanne's Model UN club attended the Southeastern High School Model UN (SHSMUN) convention held at the Marriott Convention Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Over 650 delegates from a number of high schools throughout the southeast participated. The convention is set up to simulate the actual United Nations, complete with various committees on such topics as disarmament, national security and world health. It was an intense few days, as the committee sessions begin in the morning and last till late into the night. Two of our own MUN members, Alisha Pershad '18(MUN president) and David Rhea '18 (MUN vice president), were honored to be named committee chairs.
At the closing ceremonies on Monday afternoon, awards were handed out and our Lausanne winners were:
Tori Moore-McMiller '18 (Best Delegate Honorable Mention for General Committee), Jai Sharma '19(Best Delegate Honorable Mention for Disarmament and Security Committee) and Sammi Weiss '19 (Best Delegate for Drug and Crime Committee, Honorable Mention for Best Position Paper.) Sammi was also chosen to chair the Committee on Drugs and Crime for next year's SHSMUN conference.
Congratulations to all the members for a job well-done and representing Lausanne with maturity, poise and respect.
