A Lynx since Kindergarten, senior Madeline Culbreth ’19 has used her time at Lausanne discovering her passions and embracing the sense of community she feels on campus.
Madeline developed a love of science and Spanish at the beginning of high school and has used these subjects as her focus for the IB Diploma Program. She hopes to continue pursuing the two in her academic future.
Along with her academics, the full I.B. student plays soccer, runs track and is the Team Captain for Varsity Lacrosse. Madeline also serves as President of the Lynx Serve Club, President of the Spanish Club, and a member of the Hosa Club. With so many interests, Madeline finds balance with help from Lausanne.
“The support I receive from my teachers fuels the success that I have had throughout my time here,” said Madeline. “I think Lausanne produces a different type of student. It is completely normal to be heavily involved in sports or other activities while also being deeply focused on your academic success.”
Through all of Madeline's academic and athletic activities, she still finds time to pursue one of her biggest passions: volunteering. During her junior year, Madeline started Lynx Serve, a club at Lausanne that helps give her classmates access to volunteering opportunities. She has also been on numerous mission trips that helped shape her into the person she is today.
“Two lessons that I have learned over and over again on these trips is how to love and how to be thankful,” Madeline said. “These are values that I will probably continue to learn for the rest of my life, and ones I have used during my time at Lausanne.”
She hopes to attend either Georgetown University, Vanderbilt University or the University of Georgia where she plans to major in Biochemistry or Neuroscience. As Madeline's senior year comes to a close, she reflects on all of the great memories the school has provided her and looks to the future knowing she is prepared because of her experiences at Lausanne.
