Middle Schoolers Host Lausanne's Got Talent

Our middle schoolers had the opportunity to showcase some new dance moves they've been practicing during the Lausanne's Got Talent event.

As a part of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) unit, Movement Concepts, students were introduced to a jump band activity in their Physical Education class that included a form of the traditional Tininkling dance.

"Tinkling is a Philippine fold dance that originated during the Spanish colonial era," Middle School Physical Education teacher Pamela Pointer said. "It involves two people beating, tapping and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles during the dance."

Along with Tininkling, the middle school students have been practicing jump rope juggling and line dancing, all in which led to the Lausanne's Got Talent summative for this MYP unit.

To prepare for their performances, students collaborated in groups and created routines that incorporated the different dances they learned about in class.
