A new chef is joining the Lausanne family this school year. Executive Chef of the dining hall, Matt Pearce comes to the Lausanne community with 12 years of experience working in the food industry.
“We are pleased to have Matt join the dining hall team,” said Frank Supergan, manager of the Lausanne Dining Hall. “He brings a lot experience with him and we are excited to see his take on food.”
This year’s menu will include more diverse options, healthier options and different cuisines from across the world.
“I am looking forward to understanding what students and staff enjoy and food ideas they would like to see in the future,” said Matt Pearce.
With the new school year also comes an improvement in the Blue Heron Café and Lynx Store.
Lausanne will be transitioning to a new point of sale system that moves away from student ID’s and into a system called MyKidsSpending, a web-based structure that tracks spending and shows account balances. It also gives parents the option to place a hold on funds.
The lunch fees charged to families at the beginning of the year cover student meals during lunchtime, but the MyKidsSpending system can be used to purchase additional morning and afternoon snacks in the Blue Heron Café, Lynx Store and concessions stands. They're also able to purchase other items like shirts and spirit wear from the Lynx Store.
"Previously students were able to charge an unlimited amount to their family's account or opt out altogether," explains Stewart Crais, Lausanne's Director of Operations. "With the new system, parents are able to pre-load student accounts with a set amount of money and monitor their spending, helping students learn to manage a budget with the help of their parents."
All children in PK through 12th grade will have an account. Students in 5th grade and above will make purchases through the MyKidsSpending app on their phones. If a student does not have access to a phone, iPads will be available at the register for students to login into their account to buy items.
Parents will receive an email from MyKidsSpending with information regarding the use of the new system once Lausanne staff members finish setting up the accounts.
We're excited about these updates for the new year and know you will be, too!
