Senior Kewe Chen '21 has moved and joined new schools over seven times throughout her entire life. After starting her journey in the Upper School as a freshman, she made Lausanne her home and has flourished within the Lynx community over the past four years.
Lausanne's welcoming environment has allowed her to make meaningful relationships with teachers and amazing friends for life. From tutoring her fellow peers as a National Honor Society member to teaching third-graders at Promise Academy, Kewe has realized through her countless extracurriculars that there is truly no place like Lausanne.
As a member of Lausanne's Modern Music Masters Honor Society, the senior has shown a propensity towards band and orchestra. Since the seventh grade, Kewe has placed in West Tennessee's top band and orchestra, where she plays the French horn. During her sophomore year, she joined the Germantown Youth Symphony and was chosen to play as First Chair and Section Leader for her instrument. Through her musical commitments across Memphis, the senior has learned the value of community engagement.
"Community engagement is extremely important because it allows students to become more open-minded and caring, which is vital to building one's character, in addition to learning how to work alongside other individuals," said Kewe.
When it comes to the classroom, the senior is a scholastic all-star. Kewe's academic achievements have placed her in the top 10 percent of her Class and resulted in various subject honors society inductions and earning the IB Economics HL and IB Mathematics HL Year 1 awards. She was also announced as a National Merit Finalist amongst millions of high school seniors across the country.
In addition to her array of academic accomplishments, the senior is a member of the Full IB Diploma Program.
"The IB taught has taught me the art of balancing work and fun, said Kewe. "I am able to complete my work while still participating in a variety of activities. I also love the camaraderie created within the IB program here at Lausanne. Everyone is so open and understanding which allows us to help each other and ask for help when needed," said Kewe. "There is truly never a dull moment as we all want each other to reach our fullest potential."
As college approaches this fall, Kewe feels that the IB has made her ready for the college workload.
"The rigorous IB coursework has definitely helped me prepare for college not only academically but mentally as I am confident in my work and time management," said Kewe. "If it were not for the variety of electives in the IB Program, I wouldn't have discovered my strong interest and plans for studying economics in the future."
Kewe is still awaiting a few college decisions in the coming weeks but is interested in studying Economics wherever she attends. No matter where Kewe elects to enroll this fall, she will always have a forever home in the Lynx community.
