Senior Profile – Justice Crawford '21

As Senior Class President, Justice Crawford '21 recently gave his farewell speech to his fellow classmates, who he has gracefully led through a pandemic without skipping a beat. In his address, he recited the quote, "if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again."

"Every year of high school, I have run for a position in my class's student government," said Justice. "Also, every year of high school, with the exception of one, I have lost my race for a position in my class's student government. After years of trying, I finally had the opportunity to serve and I am so happy that I was able to this past year."

To Justice, this quote resonates with him and his journey at Lausanne. To his peers, teachers and mentors, however, Justice exudes success in every manner of the word.

As a full IB diploma candidate, member of seven National Honors Societies, Lausanne Ambassador Officer, member of the Editorial board for PRISM, Lausanne Diversity of Inclusion Task Force Council Member, and soon graduate of Cum Laude Society, Justice has accomplished a myriad of things during his four years as a Lausanne Student.

In honor of his academic success, Justice has been awarded numerous class awards over the years, including Excellence in Honors Biology Award, Honors Physics, IB English Literature HL Year 1, IB Business Management HL Year 1, IB Spanish B SL Year 1, and Recipient of IB Biology HL Year 1 Award.

Justice also gained recognition as a Tennessee 2020 Governor's Scholar, which allowed him to participate in educational programming this past summer. To top it all off, this impressive senior positively contributes to the Memphis area as a Bridge Builder member.

"Since my freshman year, I have been involved with BRIDGES USA, an organization that helps diverse teens become courageous leaders committed to community transformation," said Justice. "During my time as a Bridge Builder, I have learned how to be an effective leader who can ignite change in various communities."

While carrying out duties as Senior Class President alongside his government officers, Justice is Co-President and Co-Anchor of Lynx Live, a broadcasting club at Lausanne. As a Junior, he was the President of Junior Partnership, a CAS group committed to service. He has also participated in Varsity Track and Field as well as Varsity Lacrosse during his time as a Lynx.

The Senior not only decided to be a full IB diploma Candidate but has also opted to take five Higher Level courses while doing so.

"The IB Program has prepared me for rigorous college courses, taught me effective research skills, and allowed me to discover my academic interests for collegiate level studies. With having the Extended Essay, a 4000-word research paper, under my belt, I definitely feel extremely prepared to tackle any obstacles in college."

While he has been accepted into multiple prestigious universities, Justice has decided to further his education at the University of Southern California in the fall to major in Business on a Pre Law track. His presence will be dearly missed at Lausanne, but we know he will do astonishing things as he moves into the next phase of his life.
