Over the past four years, there has been quite of a bit of change on the Lausanne boys basketball team. Players have come and gone, state championships have been won and lost, and new coaches have taken leadership. Seniors Gray Clark ‘18, Corteze Love ‘18, and Kohen Thompson ‘18 have each gotten to experience Lausanne basketball at different points, but came together this year as seniors and leaders on the team.
Clark, who came to Lausanne as a freshman from Grace Saint Luke’s, credits being a student-athlete at Lausanne as a pivotal aspect of his high school experience. Gray was a member of the two-time state championship football team, a member of the state championship varsity basketball team, ran track and was a three time member of the Homecoming Court during his high school tenure.
“Being an athlete at Lausanne taught me a level of discipline that has shaped who I am,” said the senior. “I owe a lot to my coaches, teammates and the people who supported us as a team. They all made my experience unforgettable.”
Gray plans to attend The University of Memphis, where he will walk on to the football team.
In his short time at Lausanne, Corteze Love has made an immeasurable impact in and out of the athletic arena. The Defensive MVP of the 2017 state football championship game came to Lausanne as a senior, but immediately found his place in the class of 2018. Love credits his teachers, coaches and administrators for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the Lausanne community.
“Lausanne believed in me before I even believed in myself,” said Corteze. I knew there was something about this school that was different, and I wanted to be a part of it. Sports have provided me a lot of opportunities in my life, but Lausanne gave me the tools I needed for my future.”
Corteze will be attending The University of Memphis next year on a full athletic scholarship to play football for the Tigers!
Kohen Thompson transferred to Lausanne as a sophomore from Houston and immediately became a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. The senior has also has excelled academically during his time at Lausanne. During the 2017-2018 regional basketball tournament, Thompson was named to the All-Region tournament team. He lettered for the boys’ basketball team for three years and was a starting player as a senior. Kohen is still undecided on his college plans, but hopes to play basketball at the collegiate level.
“Somewhere else somebody is always working, whether as a team or as individuals, so losing focus is not acceptable, said Kohen.”
This has been his mantra during his time at Lausanne, and we know he will go far if he sticks to it!
