Upper School Students Proudly Represent Lausanne At Model UN Convention

At the end of November, Lausanne's Model UN club attended the YMCA sponsored Southeastern High School Model UN (SHSMUN) convention held in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

More than 650 delegates from several high schools throughout the southeast participated, including 37 from Lausanne. The convention is set up to simulate the actual United Nations, complete with various committees on such topics as disarmament, national security, and world health. The Lynx participants had to write six papers discussing their position and creating a resolution, while also collaborating with students across the south to create laws that could be applied to different countries.

Ambria Williams '20 served as the UN Office of Drugs and Crime Chair for SHSMUN 2019 and Jad Hamzi '21 secured the WHO Chair for SHSMUN 2020 along with Isabel Kagoo '21 was named Security Council President for next year's convention.

During the closing ceremony, Ali Devji '21 won Best Delegate in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and Whit Ford '20 won an Honorable Mention in Security Council.

In March, Ali, Jad, and Isabel will be attending the National Model UN conference in New York City, where they will have the opportunity to meet students from around the world and have a committee session in the actual UN headquarters.

Congratulations to all of the Lausanne Model UN representatives!
