Become a student at our Open House and experience first-hand how we help students become active, compassionate life-long learners. Find out why our International Baccalaureate curriculum and co-ed campus is your best choice for preparing your child for a global world. 

Register for Open House below and pick out sessions you may wish to attend! 

Sessions are presented in 15-minute increments throughout Open House. It is recommended that families plan to arrive between 1 and 1:30 p.m. to enjoy as many sessions of interest as possible. Most sessions will repeat at least three or more times.

General Q & A Sessions (PK – 12th Grades)

  • Take time between sessions to visit with Lausanne Headmaster Stuart McCathie, the Admission Team, Student Ambassadors and our Lausanne Parent Connections representatives to gain greater insight into education The Lausanne Way!
  • Blue Heron Café – Come by the Blue Heron Café and sample a variety of coffees and other beverages and snack items offered daily for students, faculty, and parents to purchase before or after school and during break.
  • Cooking Class in Tully Dining Hall – Stop by and see a recipe from the Lausanne Dining Collection demonstrated by Executive Chef Matthew Pearce. During the tasting portion, Chef will be available to answer questions about the dining program.
  • Lynx Store Open – Ready to get in the spirit! Visit the Lynx Store in the Main Gym to find everything blue and gold you need to cheer on the Lynx!

Lower School Sessions (PK – 4th Grade)

  • Early Childhood (PK, JK, SK) Overview – Meet with Kara Barbour, our head of Lower School, and gain greater insight into the daily lives of our youngest students and how the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate gives them a solid foundation for the rest of their studies.
  • Lower School (Grades 1-4) Overview – Meet with Erica McBride, our assistant head of Lower School, as she gives an overview of how the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate develops the Learner Profile in each student Grades 1-4.
  • Early Childhood Experience – Jump into the classroom with our Early Childhood teachers and experience a typical day in one of our PK, JK or SK classrooms.
  • Lower School Learning – Teachers in grades 1 through 4 look forward to welcoming you to their classrooms and asking you to actively participate in the learning that takes place in our International Baccalaureate setting.
  • Artists at Play – Music - SK families gather once a year for an evening of music, art and dinner for the annual Artists at Play event. Experience a short family-oriented music activity from a past year. Suitable for PK-1st grade.
  • Artists at Play – Studio - SK families gather once a year for an evening of music, art and dinner for the annual Artists at Play event. Experience the art studio version of this annual event and get an introduction to how Lausanne’s art classes creatively reinforce lessons learned in the classroom.
  • Drum Circle - We’ll learn a community drumming rhythm that includes various drums, bells, shakers and possibly xylophone. Suitable for 1st-4th grade.
  • Makerspace Fun! – Mr. Manker, our Acquiring New Technology Skills (A.N.T.S) teacher, invites you to the Lower School Makerspace to choose your own green screen background and walk away with a better understanding of how we balance innovation and current technology in our classrooms.
  • Lausanne 360˚ Afterschool Activities – Get an overview of Lausanne’s afterschool and summer offerings, including Lower School sports, and have fun playing some afterschool games with our Afterschool Director Leslie Crais.
  • Conservatory: Music, Dance & More! – Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to experience one of our Conservatory dance classes with Conservatory Director Lauren Stallings. She’ll also give you an overview our afterschool instrumental and voice lessons.

Middle School Sessions (5th- 8th Grade)

  • Middle School Overview & Philosophy – Catch the highlights of what makes Lausanne Middle School so unique in its child-centered approach to education and development with Middle School Head Greg Graber.
  • Middle School Curriculum Overview – Gain an overview of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and the overall Middle School student and classroom experience with Middle School Assistant Head Kim Thorpe.
  • House Activity – Jump into one of our student-designed House System activities, with Julie Cooper, the Middle School Coordinator.
  • Teacher-led Activity – Gain greater insight into the benefits of Lausanne’s integrated math program by participating in an interdisciplinary lesson with 8th Grade Integrated Math teacher Robin Trusty and some of her students.
  • Teacher-led Activity – Work on a global-minded project with 5th Grade Social Studies teacher Kyle Lawrence and some of this students.
  • Mindfulness/Daily Focus – Participate in a Mindful Moment exercise and a Daily Focus assignment with Middle School Counselor Courtnay Veazey.
  • STEAM/Robotics – Work on a STEAM Project with Lausanne students and get an overview of the Innovation Lab with Middle School STEAM teacher Kim Bullard.
  • LynxTravel/Lynx Serve – Take a spin around the world with our Lausanne 360˚ Director Rachel Hammons to gain better insight into how our global learning is put into context and how Lausanne students are making a positive impact on our local community and beyond.
  • Music Analysis – Through listening to examples of Wind Ensemble Repertoire, we will identify and describe how Music Elements (timbre, meter, rhythm, tonality) can be used and varied by an arranger to make a new piece from familiar songs. Come get an insider’s look at Lausanne’s varied approach to music with Middle & Upper School Music Teacher DoraThea Kastenas.
  • Conservatory: Music, Dance & More! – Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to experience one of our Conservatory dance classes with Conservatory Director Lauren Stallings. She’ll also give you an overview our afterschool instrumental and voice lessons.
  • Visual Arts – Wind & Fire in the Classical Atelier – Come and see how the laser cutter (Glowforge) and the airbrush are used to quickly enhance art in a classical atelier.

Upper School Sessions (9th – 12th Grade)

  • Upper School Curriculum Overview – Learn about our unique International Baccalaureate driven curriculum and how it is tailored to meet college expectations and individual student needs in an Upper School Curriculum Overview with Assistant Head of Upper School Stephen Campbell.
  • Upper School Q & A – Come and learn why we are the best school in Memphis in an interactive Q & A session about all aspects of the Upper School with Head of Upper School Stuart Dunster
  • Advisory 101 – Participate in an interactive exploration of upper school advisory and how we incorporate the Lausanne Way into student life with Upper School Counselor Samantha Douglas.
  • College Advising GPA Games – Come meet our College Advisors, John Hawkins and Oliva New, who will showcase that there is more to the college admission process than your grade point average. They will also help you examine factors like academic programming, institutional fit and student uniqueness to help demystify the college admission process.
  • Science – Shoot for your Grade – Apply the properties of projectile motion using kinematic equations to estimate the hang time and range of a marble as it rolls down a track and "hopefully" lands on a pre-set target! The bulls-eye of the target awards a grade of an A, the next concentric ring is a B, and so on! Experience the excitement as you test your calculated values against the laws of physics!
  • Social Studies – Video Montage – Discover how our students are empowered to use their knowledge of Psychology, Anthropology, History, Economics and Business through video profiles of their many activities.
  • Design – Where Design Meets Life – Design is a powerful and productive medium that can help to build a better life. During this brief workshop, participants will partake in two activities that will explore the importance and power of design.
  • Math – Coordinate Mini Golf – Come and use a laptop to play mini-golf on the coordinate plane.
  • Languages – Escape Room – Come and learn some Spanish, Mandarin, and French in order to escape in time for your next session.
  • English – Stephen Spielberg Trivia – Play an interactive game to test your knowledge of Stephen Spielberg.
  • Theatre – The Little Mermaid – Come on stage and learn the choreography and dance with us as we work towards our December production!

  • Boys Coaches Q & A – Athletics Director Kevin Locastro and our varsity coaches will be on hand to answer questions about specific athletic programs.
  • Girls Sports Overview – Get an overview of Lausanne’s sports offerings for girls in Middle & Upper School, a profile of our student-athletes, and take a tour of Lausanne’s facilities with our Assistant Athletics Director Cayce Densford.
  • Girls Coaches Q & A – Assistant Athletics Director Cayce Densford and our varsity coaches will be on hand to answer questions about specific athletic programs
  • Lacrosse Clinic – Take the field with our student athletes and coaches and participate in a lacrosse clinic.
  • Soccer Clinic – Come kick the ball around with some of our student athletes and coaches as they lead soccer clinics throughout the day.
  • Basketball Clinic – Come get an overview of our approach to basketball by jumping into play with our student athletes and varsity coaches in the Main Gym.
  • Volleyball Clinic – Serve, set and spike the ball with our student athletes and varsity coaches as they give an overview of our volleyball program and take players through a volleyball clinic.
