Lausanne Theatre Department provides opportunities for students of all ages to study theatre and the performing arts. Our Lower School musical allows 2nd- 4th graders a chance to hone their teamwork and performing skills with a big musical each year. The Middle School also does a full scale musical every year. Our award-winning Upper School theatre department and IB Theatre program allow students to explore all genres of theatre. Upper School students not only perform a fall play and a musical this year, but they also produce an evening of student-directed one-acts.

Whether a student is interested in performing or working behind the scenes, Lausanne’s Theatre Department provides a great place for them to learn and grow.

Lower School Theatre

During Lower School, students become familiar with theatre arts through the Conservatory.

The Conservatory at Lausanne offers after-school performing arts classes to build creative, confident and expressive performers with a life-long appreciation for the arts.

Middle School Theatre

In Middle School, students are offered the opportunity to participate in a set theatre curriculum.  Middle School theatre students learn the art of storytelling through physical and vocal theatre techniques.  By teaching collaboration and creative storytelling, students gain confidence and strengthen their innovative thinking skills.

Extracurricular Middle School opportunities include a Middle School play each winter.

Upper School Theatre

During the Upper School years, Lausanne students are offered the chance to participate in exceptional plays and musicals both as actors and actresses as well as behind the scenes. Through classes such as Play Production, students learn what it takes to bring a performance together and how each part is integral to the success of the show.

Theatre Classes Offered

Students can begin taking theatre classes in the 5th grade; and, in the 11th grade, they can opt to take the IB theatre curriculum, which allows students to analyze and experience theatre from a global perspective.

In Middle School, students who meet the requirements can join the Jr. Thespian society. Jr. Thespians run and organize the talent show each year and support all theatre events throughout the year. The International Thespian Society in Upper School works together to arrange and plan theatre functions throughout the year such as our annual Night of Broadway Revue, student-directed one-acts, TN State Thespian Conference, and our annual banquet and awards program.
